First-time visitors to O'Hare quickly realize that "I'm at the airport" is not a pickup location. ORD has four active passenger terminals, each with different ground transportation pickup rules. Here's what you need to know when booking O'Hare car service.
Domestic Terminals (T1, T2, T3)
Terminals 1, 2, and 3 share a single multi-level departure/arrival structure connected by the Airport Transit System (ATS) underground rail. Car service pickups for domestic arrivals happen at the lower-level (arrivals) curb of each terminal, in the designated Transportation Network Company (TNC) and car service lanes — typically marked on the outer curb away from taxi staging.
- Terminal 1 (United): Arrivals on Level 1. Car service pickup in the designated commercial vehicle lane, outside the baggage claim doors.
- Terminal 2 (American, Southwest): Same structure, Level 1. Pickup lanes are along the outer roadway.
- Terminal 3 (American, Delta): Same lower-level structure. Confirm exact lane with your driver — construction sometimes temporarily shifts the staging area.
Terminal 5 — International Arrivals
Terminal 5 is O'Hare's international terminal, physically separate from T1–T3 on the south end of the airport. Passengers arriving on international flights clear customs here before transferring. Car service pickup for T5 arrivals is on the lower-level (arrivals) roadway — the same curb as domestic departing passengers. Your driver will typically text when they're in position.
The Global Terminal (T9 / International Terminal)
O'Hare has been expanding with a new Global Terminal (sometimes called T9) to replace the current T5. As of mid-2026, the new terminal is under construction — confirm current pickup procedures with your operator on the day of travel, as construction phases can shift access routes.
Meet-and-Greet Service: The Clearest Option
For international arrivals or any arrival where you want certainty, ask operators about meet-and-greet service: the driver enters the terminal and meets you at the arrivals exit with a name board. This eliminates curbside confusion but typically carries a small additional fee. See the separate guide on O'Hare meet-and-greet vs. curbside pickup for a full comparison.
Confirming Your Pickup Location
Before you land, confirm with the operator: (1) which terminal you're arriving at, (2) curbside lane number if they have a preference, and (3) who to call if you can't locate them. Professional operators running regular ORD car service know the terminal layouts — ask them to specify the exact meeting point when booking.
