What Chicago Limo Companies Typically Charge
These are typical rates Chicago limo, party bus, and car-service operators charge — loose ranges gathered from publicly posted operator pricing to help you budget. The two ways operators price a trip
Almost every chauffeured trip is priced one of two ways — and knowing which one applies tells you what will, and won't, change your final cost.
1. Flat (pre-established) rate — point to point
For a defined route — say O'Hare Terminal 1 to the Radisson — the operator sets a fixed price for that route. Everyone traveling that same terminal-to-hotel route pays the same: the rate is built from the route's mileage (a per-mile cost) plus a base/start fee, so it is "flat" for that route. Because it is pre-established, a flat point-to-point rate does not change with traffic or road conditions on the day — the operator commits to the price. It only differs if the points change (a farther hotel means more miles and a higher flat rate) or the operator's per-mile rate changes. A round trip is flat when both legs are the same and the points do not change.
2. Hourly rate — by the clock
You book the vehicle for a block of time with a minimum number of hours. Unlike a flat rate, hourly pricing does move with traffic, road conditions, and how long you actually use the vehicle — more time on the road means more cost. Hourly is standard for as-directed service, weddings, nights out, concerts, and charters, where the trip is not a single fixed point-to-point hop.
Start fee and minimums
Operators charge a minimum even for very short trips — a two-mile flat run still carries a base fare, and hourly bookings have a minimum number of hours (commonly 3–4, often more on weekends). You will not find a few-dollar short hop with a professional chauffeured vehicle.

What's added on top of the base rate
- Gratuity — commonly 15–20%; some operators build it into the quoted rate, so check before adding more.
- Additional wait time — beyond any included grace period (a delayed flight, or a stop that runs longer than planned).
- Add-ons — child/car seats (often with SUVs), airport meet-and-greet (a greeter who meets you inside the terminal), extra stops, and special requests.
- Tolls, parking, and fuel surcharges — usually passed through to the final bill.
Why two similar-looking trips can cost different amounts
- Occasion minimums. Weddings often carry a higher hour minimum (e.g., 5+ hours) to cover prep time, the ceremony window, and photos.
- Concerts and major events. Expect a premium: heavy traffic at pickup and drop-off, plus the difficulty of establishing a meeting point at a packed venue, ties up the driver longer and adds uncertainty.
- Demand, date, and fuel. Friday and Saturday nights, prom and wedding season, New Year's Eve, and big convention or game dates push prices up; fuel costs and vehicle availability also move quotes. Quotes are time-sensitive.
- Distance and suburbs. Pickups well outside the city mean more miles (a higher flat rate) or a surcharge.
Why a group is often cheaper in one vehicle
For a group, one chauffeured vehicle is frequently cheaper per person than several taxis or rideshares — and the gap widens once you count luggage. Six people with bags heading to O'Hare might need two or three separate rideshares (with surge pricing and limited trunk space), while a single SUV or van carries the whole group and their luggage on one fixed rate. Cost per person generally drops as the vehicle gets bigger, which is why larger groups often get the best value from a van, minibus, or party bus.
Tipping
A gratuity of 15–20% is customary for chauffeured limo and party-bus service (charter and motorcoach drivers are often tipped a bit lower in percentage given larger totals). Many Chicago operators build gratuity into the quoted rate — check your quote before adding more, and when it is not included, tip in cash at the end of the ride.
